Hi guys,

Here's a photo of something I was working on over the weekend. Can you guess what it is yet?

This is where I got to by the end of Friday night. It's not much to look at here but I promise you many, many....too many hours were spent over the remainder of the weekend working and reworking this mini to a point where I'm pretty stoked with the outcome (well at least with the top half).

This is the first in a range of custom mini's I plan on creating. Inspired by the amazing work of Asjarra (A Nice Spread) on YouTube I plan on creating a VLOG and uploading to my YouTube channel if you want to follow me? If you do let me know in the comments box or send me a P.M.

It'll be a real shame to loose these guys but I just don't get around to playing Fantasy Battle anymore and instead focus all my free time on working on 40K projects. Although I do have a warriors of Chaos army on my top shelf just aching for some work :O)

Happy New Year - Grey Knight Update 01/01/2012

Hi guys,

Sorry it's been so long since my last update. I've been busy trying to generate interest via my new YouTube channel and haven't gotten around to updating any of my blogs. Fear not as I shall be updating regularly from now on.

In the meantime here is a sample of the projects I'm working on along with some photos of the finished Paladins and Terminators for my Grey Knight army. Sorry for the quality though guys, damn camera is on the blink :O(

Here is what is going to be my Death Cult assassin squad.

This is my second Dreadknight conversion

I thought I'd add the shocked demonette enjoying a relaxing bath in the molten magma as a joke.

Here is the beginnings of my dreadnought with dual, twin linked autocannonns. After hearing all the fuss on podcasts lately regarding these chaps I thought I'd best add one. The Puppetswar arms are exceptional and will be looking to purchase some more kits in the near future :O)

Here is the commander for my Grey Knight army. I really enjoyed painting this chap and I love the OSL I attempted. Hopefully my technique will improve over time?

This guy is the old metal Grey Knight terminator captain. I will use him to represent a grand master.

Grey Knight Update - 04/12/2011

Hi all,

Here's an update on the Grey Knights.

I finally finished my first unit! On these models I attempted painting the glow effect of the power weapons and the heat from the lava onto the body of the model. What do you think?

Next I'll be putting the finishing touches to the two squads of terminators once I've finished painting the banners. Hopefully the lighting effects will equally enjoyable to paint?

Grey Knight update - 23/11/2011

Hi guys,

I've been busy busy working on the Grey Knights over the last couple of weeks. I've nearly finished all the squads and will upload photos once I've finished them. In the meantime here is a photo of the first dreadknight in its weathered form:

I wanted the theme for the entire army to be as if they were stuck on a demonic world and decided to create volcanic / molten magma bases. Here is a photo of the base for the dreadknight (pre painting):

And here is a photo of my test piece:

I'm really happy with the result, I do not think the photo does it justice and I can't wait to finish the bases for the remainder of the army. Once mounted I hope to apply a glow effect to each model to reflect the heat coming from the magma.

One last thing, after searching my bitz box the other night I came across this chap:

It turns out a winning eBay bid from many many years ago secured me this guy, which at the time I had no clue as to who he was? It's missing a few key components like the character and the gun servitor with multi melta but hopefully with a little creativeness I can convert something to take their places?

Necron update - 03/11/11

Hi guys,

Here's a quick update on the Necron samples which I'm working on whilst waiting for the amazing new kits to come out:

The first of eight I currently have on my chopping block.

Here's an example of the spinal ridges which I'll be applying to the remaining seven.

I'm not sure how I feel about the American football style shoulder pads but I'll push on and see how it looks once painted?

I finally managed to locate some cork sheet so I'll begin crafting the bases this evening. My intention is to create volcanic rock formations with lava seething through the middle of the base. I may even have some of the troops rising from the molten magma with their steel apendages glowing red / white with heat? :O)

Necron update - 27/10/2011

Hi guys, here's my first attempt at a repose of the standard Necron warrior:

My personal opinion is that there is no need for the lower half of the jaw so that was the first thing to go. Do they even speak? hmmm

I went for a slouched pose and repositioned the head to be much lower down in the chest.

Both arms were split at the elbows and allowed to straighten to try and position the gauss flayer at arms length. I failed a little here and hopefully the next conversion will work out better?

As shown above and below I have tried to illustrate the next phase of my modifications. I intend on sculpting additional spine features, which will continue down the entire length of the spinal column and over the top of the shoulders down to the head..

Next I will sculpt new shoulder pads, similar to the existing Immortals perhaps?

NECRONS!!!!!!!

Hi guys,

As I'm sure everyone and their wives know, the Necron are about to grace us with their presence as I must say I'm completely, utterly, 100% sold. So much so that I'm going to take the plunge and make Necron my second personal army after my Serpent Guard........only after I've sold off the Grey Knights though so I need to get cracking that whip and self flagellate myself into overdrive.

In preparation for the arrival of the new amazing miniatures I delved into the darkest depths of my bitz box to find a selection of Necrons as shown below:

I've had these chappies for probably over a decade now. Having never really been taken with the design of the standard warrior and how they do not reflect the sheer awesomeness of the artwork portrayed in the codex I thought it might be interesting to undertake a small project and see if I could convert this humble miniature into something like the following?:

I'm confident that with some cuts here or there, a little bit of plasticard, a heavy application of Chiaroscuro painting technique and some of my latest top secret medium I will be able to produce something similar to the above? I can't promise that all these minis will survive the surgery but trial and error has never been the most efficient of proccesss now has it! :O)

Ok,

Here is a snap shot of the storm raven as of last thing yesterday before the day light died on me :O(

I'm looking for inspiration as to what to paint on all that lovely flat canvas? If anyone has any ideas why not put a comment below? I'll be painting all the usual hazard warning symbols around such areas as the doors and hurricane bolters but I definitely think this wonderful model needs a bit of free hand to make it pop?

This is the unit of chosen which will be riding in the latest rhino I've been working on. There has not been allot of work been put into these guys yet and I haven't tried them out in the game so far but I'm hopeful that these infiltrating / outflanking chappies will be able to distract the enemy long enough so that my greater daemon and winged princes can get in at least one round of combat?

I've been away for the last five days so not much has gone on painting wise. I do however have a W.I.P shot of the chosen / possessed transport though:

I wanted the colour scheme for the two serpents to be slightly different from the other rhinos to differentiate between the troop and elite dedicated transport.

I decided to prime the plague reaper and repaint in the colours of the Serpent Guard.

Here I began working on the transport for my squad of Serpent Guard chosen.

I wanted to have a different design for the iconography on this rhino to make it stand out from the others.

The 'not so Grey Knight' update 26/11/2011

Hi all,

I finally plucked up the courage yesterday and whipped out the 'not so Grey Knights' along with my airbrush and got cracking on painting these guys. I decided to go with a dark red for the colour scheme and will probably throw in a bit of Serpent Guard influenced grey/white for thrills too.

I haven't much photographic evidence to show you how I got on except for a couple of photos of the first dreadknight:

I began with a coat of grey primer followed by mahogany.

I then began highlighting with Italian red and then orange.

This guy is just asking for some freehand so I need to get my creative juices flowing and design a pattern, which will compliment the awesomeness that is this miniature :O)

I'm absolutely in love with my airbrush not and why oh why haven't I used it properly until now?!
I got so carried away I managed to undercoat the remainder of the Grey Knight army as well priming my Plaguereaper for the Serpent Guard as I'm not happy with the existing paint job and want to bring it in line with the existing colour scheme.

Keep checking back guys because in the near future I'll be cracking out a couple of super special projects, one of which I've had to import parts from the good old U.S of A :O)

Here's a quick update on the progress of my Serpent Guard. I've been working loads the last couple of weeks trying to finish all three squads of Chaos Space Marines in my army. They're not quite finished yet but I took some photos of a couple of the minis at lunch time today so here you go:

Okay guys, here is the beginnings of a new eBay army, which I've begun working on.

Here is the first of two dreadknights. The second one is in pieces on my desk at the moment but hopefully I'll have photos for you some time tomorrow?

Grey knight squad. All they need now in a troop transport, but which one to choose? hmmmm

To accompany these guys I have a finecast librarian and a Stormraven, which is having paint applied to it at the moment so look out for more W.I.P photos soon.

The colour scheme I'll be applying to this army will not be the standard boltgun metal (I HATE boltgun metal!!!!). Instead I will be using a similar colour scheme to that of my Serpent Guard, that is more Astronomicon grey rather than metal!

Serpent Guard update 21/08/2011

Hi guys,

Here's a quick on the progress on my serpent guard and of what I have planned for the near future.

I've been working on some dreadnoughts ready for the Babab War boarding missions, which we play on Thursdays:

The above is the close combat monster with bolter and heavy flamer.

Here is the plasma cannon armed option. Both dreads are ready to receive their iconography. I'm thinking serpents wrapping around all the the limbs? More to come soon.

Next I have an update on my triple dakka preds, which I'll use in my 1750 tournament list:

These guys are nearly finished. All that's left is to do some white highlights then the fun begins......the weathering!!!! :O)

Other than working on the serpent guard I've gotten around to purchasing a Grey Knight army after being inspired by a friend with his amazing conversion of a dreadknight (you know who you are!)......which I have stolen so expect to see some W.I.P progress shots of these guys soon which will eventually be going up for sale on eBay.

New serpent guard toyz!!!!

Howdy all,

I've been busy the last few weeks building my 1750 tournament list and trying to finish painting it so I don't have much to show you all yet sadly.

I do however have some lovely new toyz fer ya all :O)

Behold!!!! The mighty greater brass scorpion.....OF DOOM!!!!!!!!

And the slightly lesser impressive Hell Talon.....OF DEATH!!!!!!

I can not wait to get some paint onto these guys but as I have an Apoc game at Warhammer World next Sunday it won't be ready for then sadly :O(

I do have some W.I.P photos for you of one of my Predators. At the weekend I was growing tired of looking at the bland faces of the pred so I decided to add some flair by painting on some serpents:

So what do you think? Obviously these are only W.I.P shots and I'm a little unsure how it will look once I'm finished, but I'll battle on till the end and reserve my opinion until then. Hopefully if it works out I'll paint similar graphics on my other two preds :O)

Tired.....so very tired....but the show must go on!

So, for the last two weeks, and the next five I have been plucked from my home and stuck in a hotel whilst on a job for work. As a result of the long, long hours and being away from home my hobby time has taken a beating. I did however this week manage to cram into my luggage (at the expense of clothing it seems) a variety of hobby equipment, enabling me to begin work on bases for my Serpent Guard:

I don't know if it's the delirium or the UHT milk in the hotel coffee but I'm stoked with how these are progressing. You'll notice in ammoungst the bases is the inspirartion for this creative flair? I fancy running some raptors in my Serpent Guard and felt they needed a vantage point to perch upon. With the release of the Finecast versions however I may be making ANOTHER Games Workshop purchase very soon as they would be substantially easier to mount than their metal counterparts!

One last purchase this week, which I managed to smuggle out of the house before the girl friend noticed it's appearance:

Serpent Guard Rhino update

Hi all, sorry it's been so long since my last post. I've been struggling lately to get in much hobby time since a new project I'm working on involves being away from home for the next six weeks or so :O(

However, I did manage this weekend to get some free hand down on two more rhinos to join my existing:

I'm still not completely happy with these rhinos and want to design a serpentine theme pattern to apply down the sides of each. Maybe when I'm sitting in my hotel room this week I'll whip out the sketch pad and create a design.......only if I can put down 'The First Heretic' that is?! I just can't put this bloody book down, it's definitely the best book in the series since 'Horus Rising' for me :O)

Serpent Guard Possessed Marines W.I.P

Hi all,

Here is a quick update on what I've been working on this week. After basing my Slaanesh Chaos Warrior unit I moved my attention back to my Serpent Guard army.

I'm reading 'First Heretic' by Aaron Dembski-Bowden at the moment, which is fast becoming my favorite novel in the Horus Heresy series. As it is all about the Word Bearers I'm inspired nightly to pick up my paint brushes and get busy painting. I especially love the cover art which has inspired me to add a unit of possessed marines to my force. With strength 5, 4+ invulnerable save (with mark of Tzeentch) and a random special ability they are fast becoming a fearsome force to contend with on the battle field! Even those pesky toughness 8 Eldar wraithlords (which used to be my Achilles heel) quake in their boots when a unit of ten possessed jump out of a rhino and charge into combat. They're even better when you roll rending / power weapons on the special ability table.

Here are some photos of the unit in its current state:

All shading and highlighting has been applied to the red armour. Next I'll move onto the flesh and then the armour trim. Once all that is finished the fun begins and I can start applying the weathering and battle damage. This is where the real pleasure for me can be found as the miniatures really start to pop!

Slaanesh Chaos Warrior Army Update

Hi all, here is a quick update on what little work I completed last night.

For my Slaanesh lord on steed I took an unused Chaos Knight steed and cut away the rear end to allow the miniature to sit correctly:

I intend on sculpting a new cloak onto the lord to extend over the back of the barded steed and cover over the area which I cut away.

I did a little bit of work on the sorcer base by incorporating a green stuff Slaanesh rune into the front of the stone:

I really need to strip this model!

For the command squad I incorporated a Chaos Knight trumpet with the Chaos Warrior musician:

Warriors of Chaos - Slaanesh warrior bases

I was drifting off to sleep the other night thinking about my recently constructed unit of Slaanesh Chaos Warriors and I wondered how could I make the bases a little more interesting? It struck me that why do I need to have all of the warriors at the same height? Could I not raise the ranks so that the rear is slightly higher than the front (someone is going to tell me that there is a rule regarding this aren't they)?

So last night after work I began working a piece of foam to use as a base for my unit.

I cut the 1" thick foam to suit the movement tray which my unit sits upon. I then scored the foam to create rows and columns to match the number of bases in the unit. Once scored I used a saw to cut the foam block into columns. In hindsight I should of taken into account the unit filler which will be placed somewhere in this block. Instead I will have to complete some additional sculpting to make it fit.
Once I had my columns I began cutting into the foam. The first cut formed a taper from front to back thus ensuring the rear row would be higher than the front. I then cut the foam at different angles to try and replicate the form of slated rock. Once I achieved the desired effect I cut the columns into five even pieces (see below):

Once I had my squares I glued the pieces onto standard Warhammer bases, I aligned all the pieces together and let them dry. Once dried I separated and cleaned each piece as the picture below illustrates:

You will notice I have already installed the raised block on the front row for the Chaos Sorcerer to sit upon.

Next I need to decide where the unit filler(s) need to be positioned so that I can attempt to combine the squares where required?

Serpent Guard update

Dragon Ogres up for grabs, eBay and Slaanesh!

Hi all,

Sorry it's been so long since I posted. The laptop broke again and then Blogger refused to let me post :O( All the Death Guard and the Dragon Ogre (below) eBay auctions are live, hurrah!

I can now focus on my next eBay project :O) I have an assembled Storm Raven sitting on my desk as well as a Grey Knight Dreadknight and three Furioso dreadnought boxed sets. More to come on those soon.

Last weekend I was able to find time to get in a game of Warhammer Fantasy with some old chums from school and I have begun working on my Warriors of Chaos army again. I've decided to go with an all Slaanesh themed army purely because I love the new plastic miniatures I have sitting around and plan to incorporate them as unit fillers. I also plan on crafting my Slaanesh warshrine(s) utilizing the amazing new seeker plastic kit :O)

I'll post W.I.P photos of the above as well as updates to my Serpent Guard very soon.

The wings are magnetized so he an be used with or without flight.....but seriously, why wouldn't you take wings? :O)

This is one of my favorite models to come out of Games Workshop for some time! It's just a shame he had to go with the rest of my Death Guard army but with space being at a premium around here something had to go sob sob! Hopefully he'll go to a good home and this toughness 6 flying behemoth will take down the weak minded followers of the false emporer!

It's been too long....again!

Sorry for not posting for ages, damn laptop died again. I've been working on my Serpent Guard over the last few weeks and will upload photos of the WIP as well as some finished miniatures.

Serpent Guard rhino hatch design

New toys for my Serpent Guard army

I finally managed to get my grubby little hands on a reasonably priced greater daemon via eBay. I just need to clean and fill it then it'll be time to get paint onto this baby :O)

Over the weekend I managed to spend some time working on my first Serpent Guard unit and they are nearly finished. I just need to paint the iconography and the banner for the champion then they'll be finished (excluding the base work). Once finished I will upload photos for crtique :O)

I'm still here and Serpent Guard update

Well I'm still here, not much to show for my weekend though thanks to some complete b£$%?rd who stole my motorcycle whilst I was sleeping!!!!

I did begin working on my 'Serpent Guard' army for a change. Most of my 1500 point tournament army list is now undercoated and I have begun to focus on induvidual squads.

Here are a couple of photos from my painting station as of this morning before I left for work:

I'm trying to stay away from the standard 'paint the recesses black' approach on the rhino and instead I went with white. The large white panels of the rhino I will paint free hand designs onto as illustrated on an eariler post.

I still have lots of side projects awaiting completion, including quite alot of Tau vehicles which were left over after a project I completed a year ago as well as the Blood Angel Storm Raven and Furioso dread which are still in their wrapping and sitting on a shelf :O(

There is talk of a commission job on the horizon following supply to a satisfied cutomer on eBay? I will blog about this further if it becomes a reality?

Quickie

Just a quick one today. Here are some photos of my latest batch of castings for my obliterators.

I still have to work out a couple of problems with the pouring process to remove voids but I'm getting there slowly.
Next I'll make the molds for the bases then I'll be ready to begin casting batches off ready for my apoc game in a few weeks :O)

Busy busy busy!

Hello all,

Sorry for the lack of posts recently, things are hotting up over here in the Rumplemaster household. Lots of projects going on at the moment but there is not allot to show for it yet :O(

First here is a photo of something I'm quite excited about:

(Mark II silicone mold for one of my chaos obliterator sculpts)

Hopefully this Mark II mold will correct this issues I had with the first and remove the air bubbles forming? I'll be taking a resin cast out tonight once home from work and will have a photo uploaded of the success or failure once assembled.

Now that the Blood Angels have all been sold, posted and the last commission job has been completed I've had time to work on my personal army, the 'Serpent Guard'. After two solid evenings of undercoating, basecoating, washing and shading I now have 50% of my 1500 point tournament army looking very red indeed. Once I have something of interest to show you I will post some photos but please hang on in there as I hope the wait will be worth it in the end? :O)

Dark Angel commission finished...finally

Serpent Guard presentation board

I've been dabbling with the idea of creating a presentation board for my Serpent Guard ready for when I finally get myself to some tournaments.

Here are a few snap shots of parts I want to incorporate into my board.

I thought it might be cool if these cryo tubes were used as a power source to feed the warp gate on my terrain board, draining the life essence out of the Serpent Guards victims. I'll then pipe up all the tubes and feed them into the gate.

I cut the foam for the board last night after laying out my 1500 point tournament army and hopefully I'll post some pics tomorrow?

First casting done!

I managed to find time over the weekend to produce my first resin casting of one of my obliterators. What do you think?

I'm not completely satisfied with the end result. I need to refine my pouring process to eradicate the air bubbles forming in the casting. It's not a complete waste though as I will repair it with filler and green stuff ready for painting.

Hopefully I'll manage to manufacture molds of the remaining two obliterator sculpts soon?

Hi all, I spoilt myself this week and purchased this fabulous resin cast mini to represent 'Throgg the Troll King' for my Warriors of Chaos army. What do you think?

The level of detail in this miniature is simply outstanding and even puts Forgeworld to shame!

I can't wait to get paint on this guy. Next I'll have to buy myself some of the new plastic river trolls from G.W as this guy allows me to use them as troops.

What I'm working on and commision work

I didn't get much hobby work completed this weekend sadly but I did manage to make some progress on one of my 'Serpent Guard' champions (see below):

I hope to have this one finished by the end of this evening ready to take some decent photos ready for the next day?

As I mentioned before I have had some enquiries into completing some commission work and it looks as if a small project is going to go ahead. Hopefully soon I'll run a series of posts with updates of how this commission proceeds?

And finally, I received a rather large package this morning containing the new Storm Raven kit and three plastic Furioso boxed sets which I plan on painting in the Blood Angels colours.

What's next, my 'to do' list and a successor chapter name decided upon.....finally!

After finally finishing the Blood Angels last week I've been able to move back to working on my personal Warhammer 40K army. I'm sick of referring to it as the 'successor chapter' all the time so I've settled upon a name. From here on in the name of my chapter will be the 'Serpent Guard'.

Interestingly enough after uploading my Blood Angels onto eBay I have received a number of requests to complete some commissions. Hopefully if all goes well I may have (with the commissioners permission of course) some W.I.P of this work up on this blog?

Other work on my list of things to do include the heavily converted obliterator, a squad of Tau Piranhas, a couple of Devilfish and a Hammerhead. All of these except the Obliterator will eventually be up for grabs on eBay in the next month or so?

And finally to anyone taking the time to read my blog, what project would you like to see me work on next, an Eldar or an Ork army? I want to move away from painting power armour for now and develop my painting skills with a different type of army. I was considering completing a 1000 point Ork Nob biker army with Forge World kits. What do you think?

Obliterator W.I.P. update

Here are some photos of the Obliterators as of last thing yesterday (sorry for the light quality):

I'm really pleased with how the claws came out. I personally feel it compliments the intense pose the hand is orientated in.

I definitely need to thicken the calf armour of his left leg to match the left.

I'll add armour plating to the foot made from think slices of plastic-card to resemble the original miniature.

I want to keep the necrotic feel to the flesh of the arms as this is where the weapons are extruding from. I will blend the plasma cannon into the flesh with green stuff and add guitar wire for detail.
Next I'll add banding to the armour plates with green stuff and plastic-card.

More work in progress

Here is a snap shot of yet another project I've been working on over the last couple of days.

I've never been a fan of the existing Obliterator models so I took one of my spare Obliterator figures and ground it down to its basic shape. I then cut it apart at its limbs with a hacksaw and pinned it together. I plan on building the shape back up with green stuff and Milliput by thickening the calf cowling and adding armour trim details.

I want the miniature to reflect the artwork illustrated in the previous edition of the Chaos Space Marine codex (see below) and not the hunched over necrotic version as presented in the existing miniature.

I would like to replicate the feel of 'firing fury' in the miniatures stance and facial expression. I intend for the next miniature in the unit to be in a blood rage, ruthlessly tearing apart a loyal space marine terminator.

A comment I would make is that the plasma cannon arm is a little too long in my opinion so I'll cut it down and merge it into the flesh. I will then incorporate power weapon-Esq talons into the power fist hand similar to my 'Mark I' Obliterators which I sculpted a few years ago (see below).

What I've been working on over the weekend

So what have I been working on this weekend? Not allot sadly I must admit! 3am + Tequila slammers + rock band + sing star = not allot happening the following day. I did however begin a new side project. In a moment of insanity I thought to myself "what about sculpting my own miniatures and casting them in resin"? With the hang over in tow, blocking all powers of sensibility I once possessed, off to eBay I went and I am now the owner of all I need to make castings of anything I create.

Inspired by my latest purchase I began to play around with some Milliput I had lying around and fashioned the following:

Humble beginnings maybe? Potential work of awesomeness or diabolical failure?

Could this be the start of my next batch of Chaos Space Marine Obliterators? Or is this just another failed project of mine, relegated to the shed of broken dreams?

I also began working on my Warriors of Chaos Tzeentch Sorcerer Lord to act as the general to my army.

I had an out of production miniature in my bitz box which seemed to fit the role perfectly. I crafted the disc from two flying bases and some plasticard. Next I'll need to add some detail with green stuff and design a scenic base for it to be mounted upon.

One last project I managed to cram into my Ibuprofen haze this weekend was to begin work on my second Daemon Prince conversion for my successor chapter. It's not much to look at but you can see most of the individual pieces which go to make it up compared to the completed staff I completed earlier.

Warriors of Chaos W.I.P

Over the last couple of days I've put the 40K miniatures to one side and started looking at my Warriors of Chaos, and boy do I wish I hadn't lol. Before I even began to write an army list I popped out and bought myself a boxed set of the Citadel woods with the intention of somehow incorporating a tree into the rank and file units to create a mini diorama.
Once home I realised it may be difficult as the Warriors of Chaos miniatures fill the bases quite well, especially the Chaos Warriors! I'm a little more hopeful that the marauders size will lend itself to incorporating this scenery?
It is my intention to mount a tree onto a chariot base and have it grown out of some ancient ruins. This will then sit in the centre or back of the unit block and I will create a small diorama here? Do you have any thoughts or suggestions?

Hopefully I'll have something to show you of my 2000 point Warhammer army in the next couple of weeks?

In the meantime here are a few photos from my work station of the Chaos Warhounds I'm working on (sorry for the low quality)

More Blood Angels

Okay, so the Blood Angels are nearly ready to be uploaded onto eBay. However Games Workshop have thrown a spanner in the works by releasing the plastic Furioso and Storm Raven kits in the next couple of weeks! Soooooo I think I will be purchasing a couple of these kits and adding them to the auction once completed?
In the meantime here are a couple of units which were finished a while ago that I never got around to photoing.

Finished Terminators

I finally managed to finish painting my successor chapter terminators last night. It's taken over a month to convert, sculpt and paint but I'm really happy with the end results.

Here is my favorite member of the squad. Originally these terminators were going to bear the mark of Nurgle for my Death Guard army but I couldn't resist incorporating them into my new successor chapter. Can you blame me? Click on any of the photos for a larger version:

Here was my pitiful attempt to duplicate the amazing work of Todd Swanson. I failed obviously, but I still believe it's a fine miniature.

I wanted this squad member to hold a dynamic pose, blasting the followers of the false Emperor. Did I pull it off?

Here is another power-scythe wielding terminator. As stated before these were going to be Death Guard models, hence the scythe but I think it still looks okay? Maybe I'll replace with a halberd in the future?

And finally I have the remaining member of the squad. I wanted to pose him so that it seemed as if he was about to take aim with his combi melta.

Work station update

Okay, here I have a low resolution photo of a mini I've had sat at my workstation for a couple of weeks.

This guy is going to be one of the Chaos Sorcerers in my successor chapter. He's a very early W.I.P but I'm hoping for great things from him once I've sculpted the robes, scripture and iconography.

Also shown here is the test piece I completed of the shoulder pad design, which I will be applying as my chapter icon.
I have since applied this design to the miniatures I previewed in an earlier post (the silhouette). I hope to have the squad completed by Friday evening and completed photos should be up online on Monday at both my mybattalion and coolminiornot profiles.

Caught in the act….bad Jess…..bad Jess…..

Coming home last night I was confronted with a sight that all hobbyists never want to witness (see below):

Yup, there it is…….two weeks of painting for my next eBay auction……spread across the living room floor………aaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhh!!! Now I wonder who could be to blame for this? (See below):

That’s right, mans best friend was not a friend to me yesterday I tell ya lol

Needless to say I lost an entire evening of painting and instead spent the time gluing back together the two squads of Khorne Bezerkers, a unit of Khorne close combat terminators, a Khornate lord in terminator armour and a conversion of Abaddon. All of which were very close to being finished ready to be uploaded to eBay.

Thankfully only minimal damages occurred and I hope to have these guys up for sale on eBay ready for when everyone gets paid in February?

I’ve learnt my lesson, “do not leave miniatures in paws reach” and have instead purchased some spherical entertainment for Jess so hopefully the temptation will not be there next time?

Let the obsession commence

Ok, so I had my first game of 8th edition Warhammer Fantasy battle last week whilst attending my weekly games night and ever since it's all I can think about (besides my successor chapter of course).
After blowing the dust off my Ogre Kingdom army and demolishing my opponent I've officially been stung by the WHFB bug.
Upon returning home later that evening, floating on a high of battlefield victory, the cheap fried chicken and highly caffeinated cola products still coursing through my veins inducing a temporary euphoria, I began to ponder, what miniatures lurk within the dark depths of my hobby room? What project could I undertake to run in parallel to my successor chapter as well as my eBay projects? My 'Ogre Kingdom' army was painted many, many years ago, I do not relish the idea of repainting it so it had to be something else, something new, something shiny..........hmmmmmm........enter my 'Warriors of Chaos' army!

Many moons ago I was lucky enough to purchase on eBay two 'Warriors of Chaos' battalions as well as a limited edition Archaon on foot for a very, very low price in my opinion. Ever since it has been sat beneath my xbox, patiently waiting for its time to shine. Now is that time my friends for it has been promoted! No longer will it sit beneath the warming bosom of Microsoft’s whirling pleasure maker, for now it sits proudly upon my hobby table in full view of the couch of slothenly pursuits, for this is where I undertake all my painting successes and failures. Patiently it awaits, what wicked delights will I conjure via the swift slice of the hobby knife and the apprehensive application of plasticard or green stuff?

Expect to see not only Warhammer 40K Blog posts from now on but also Fantasy Battle ones too.

Banner and shoulder icon design update

Here's a quick update on the design of the successor chapter banner and iconography. I didn't fancy painting all the intricate design of the banner onto all of the troops so I designed the following, which is to be painted onto the shoulder pads.

Hopefully by the end of the week I will have photos to upload of my successor chapter terminator squad with the should icons added?

Successor Chapter - W.I.P Champions

Okay, today I have for your viewing pleasure are examples of the champions which I'm work on for my successor chapter.

The following sketches documents how I came to decide upon my successor chapters banner / icon.

Here is my interpretation of the 'Word Bearer' logo (ignoring the Blood Angel sketch of course):

Here is the evolved version of the first draft before I decided to create my own successor chapter:

Once I had decided to go down the path of creating my own successor chapter I had to decide upon a theme. I chose to go with the theme of serpents to compliment the history behind the Word Bearers and the 'Serpent Lodge of Davin'. I had wanted to use the ouroboros (the snake eating itself) as the symbol but a little research showed that this was once used by the 'Thousand Sons' chapter. I therefore went for the following:

Next I wanted to evolve the snake theme and looked into the history of the 'Word Bearers'. I found the following website invaluable www.wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Word_Bearers. Here I read that previous iconography of the 'Word Bearers' included an open hand with an eye in the palm. After looking for inspiration I stumbled upon the Warhammer online gallery and was instantly inspired by some of the Dark Elve artwork after which I sketched the following:

Next it was a simple case of replacing the heart with an eye and incorporating the serpent with the fist:

So, I hope you were mildly interested in this progress? Next step is to choose the colour scheme and decide upon a name for this chapter.

So, what do I have planned for 2011 I hear you all cry in unison

I am very proud to announce that 2011 marks my venture into the creation of a Chaos Space Marine successor chapter. The following was a paint scheme test I undertook over the xmas hols.

The next job is to come up with a name and a logo. It is my intention that this chapter will be a successor to the 'Word Bearers' and the emblem that represents my chapter will be of the serpent and of the fist holding an eye.

I'm back!

Okay, I fully acknowledge that no one reads my blog and who can blame you? Only four posts, none of them of painted / finished models and then nothing for a whole year! For shame……shame on me! Well I’m back now and I intend on bestowing upon this blog my full attention in 2011.
Brace yourself for periodic updates of minis I’m working on (even if it is just a snap shot of what is on my painting station that evening), sketches / designs for new projects ideas and dare I say it even photos of completed projects?

For now though I would just like to thank all three of you who were / are following this blog and I hope by the end of 2011 I can say that I have achieved......five followers!

Okay, another update.

Here is the photo of the assembled terminator assault squad.

As with the previous squad I've tried to remove all the mould lines from the plastics and pose in dynamic stances. Slate and modelling sand were then applied to the bases.

If anyone has suggestions of Blood Angel names for both the squad and individual members please leave a comment?

How could I resist?

After assembling the Space Marine Terminator squad I couldn’t help myself and powered up the laptop and got myself onto the Maelstrom Games website and placed an order for a boxed set of Space Marine Assault Terminators, which arrived this morning :o)

I just need to hide them from the girl friend as I'm supposed to be saving for a new bathroom lol.

Blood Angel squad progress update

Okay, quick update.

Here I have photos of the assembled terminator squad. I've tried to remove all the mould lines from the plastics and pose in dynamic stances. I removed the flash from the librarian and chaplain but resisted converting the mini this time around, maybe next time my sweets!

Welsh slate was glued to the bases to try and add an extra aspect to the posing and modelling sand was applied.

Next I would like to begin naming the squad and the individual minis. After a brief stint browsing the Internet I settled with the following names: -

Squad = Lazurus

Chaplain = Argastes

Librarian = Furion

Terminators:

Brother Leonatos (Sergeant with power weapon and storm bolter)
Brother Menelus (Heavy flamer and power fist)
Brother Mabuse (Storm bolter and power fist)
Brother Vesalius (Storm bolter and power fist)
Brother Raphael (Storm bolter and power fist)

If anyone has a suggestion of better names please leave a comment?

I never want to see another gaunt...AGAIN!

So what have I been painting this weekend?........Gaunts, gaunts and more gaunts! All 32 of 'dark apostle of pies' gaunts have been undercoated, primed, washed, highlighted, wet blended and based, Phew! Only the lictor and ravener squad to go then I'm free of this disgusting mass of bioengineered filth.

Paper, scissors, CONCRETE! Concrete wins every time!

TRAGEDY!

I finally completed painting apostle of pies Tyranid Hive Tyrant last night so I took it outside to give it a coat of purity seal. It was my intention to give it a fighting chance of holding some level of detail whilst used on the gaming table.

However, post coating of matt varnish, one freak gust of wind, a short drop with a sudden stop later all I had left to show for my time was a pile of smashed, scratched, and chipped pieces.
Due to the level of conversion work undertaken upon this mini had left it susceptible to shattering.
A lesson learned here is to pin pin pin boys and girls or more importantly next time convert a Carnifex into a Hive Tyrant using the wonderful, bouncier plastic kit.

After a sleepless night, haunted by the traumatic event playing over and over again in my mind I have managed to assemble the mini back to its previous glory but now need to complete the soul destroying task of touching up and in some cases stripping back to bare metal.

For now please enjoy this silhouette and I’ll try and upload some photos of the completed mini over the weekend.

Next project

At last!

This morning I finally received in the post the minis for my next project. I've dreamt for a while now to paint up a squad of Blood Angels so I got myself onto the wonderful 'Maelstrom Games' website and purchased this gorgeous boxed set of termies as well as a Terminator Chaplain and Librarian (how could I resist purchasing these spectacular minis? It would of just been rude not too!).

Oh yes I also bought the Huron Blackheart model ready for my inaugural game of 40K in two weeks time where I shall be unleashing my Chaos Space Marines against my very good friend 'dark apostle of pie' and his Tyranids. And before you say anything apostle "yes your nids will be completed before I begin on the Blood Angels" :o)

Finally up and running!

Hurrah!

At last we've completed the move into our first home! The painting station has been set up in the wonderfully lit conservatory and the shed/workshop is ready for use in constructing all manor of terrain :o)

I hope to in the next couple of days begin blogging some works in progress so please check back soon.
